WIKIPEDIA has just launched the first version of the visual editor. See a preview of the new interface Babbage (now available here) before going live and be overstatement didn’t call it the most significant change in the short history of Wikipedia. The expectation is that the editing of the free online by the visual editor will be more like playing games on a blogging platform like WordPress or Blogger and less like something that only other people do.
Has anyone considered the benefits of putting a little barrier to editing Wikipedia articles? Need to learn how to edit the markup language (which isn’t hard) make sure that only people who really care about a subject will be editing the Wikipedia entry, once you make it as easy as blog posts, or post a comment on web forums, there is no way of knowing if the system will quickly degenerated into chaos with the troll littering the subject personal advantage/entertainment or politics, which has been a problem on a particular Wiki topics.
Declining editor sounds scary. I hope Wikipedia is around for a while. This has changed my life more than the site other than Google though is run by a small, low-budget organization.
Seriously, it’s affected my career choice 1), decision 2) I am divorced, 3) I informed decisions about health insurance, use of drugs, and the decision about when to seek medical attention, 4) I 5) intellectual interests me a hobby, the city 6) I live in and who knows what else I haven’t thought of.
“Senior Editor the famous temper tantrum”. Jerks that keep us from wasting time we improve the site. Let them enjoy the power of the counter-edit them among themselves.
